a winter doze paralyzed it in cold thoughts
And swallowed us with cold feet into a sweet dream
Then it unfolds
I have (want) to stay awake
And stand in haze
I’ll tie my lace
my race
To run and taste
As a fan of Anoa Records' releases, I am amazed by how this label has always been make a very significant contribution to the local scene.
Still remember when releasing Blossom Diary or The Sastro up price on the second markets seller at “crazy” prices, Anoa beat them up the second market seller by re-releasing Blossom Diary and The Sastro. Then Anoa also released "Magicals" bands like Black Mustang and Lass. For me, it's very interesting to always follow Every fresh kicks of this label.
Now most recently, Anoa again made a breakthrough with juxtaposing local bands with foreign bands in a split EP tape: DIVE THE LIONS:
Dive Collate (Bali / Indonesia) and The Lions Constellation (Barcelona / Spain). Frankly, there might be people who would rather write liner notes for this split because My references to shoegaze music are terrible, nothing compared to Peter the owner of this label.
Dive Collate, I know this Balinese band when they released their EP 'Singles Jar' through Anoa Records in 2019. I never expected a shoegaze band to be this good from Bali. On this split release, they performed two songs Winter and Myopic Feelings. Two songs with such a perfect composition, I immediately imagined them like The Depreciation Guild was met with Whirrr which produced a very loud noise very beautiful in the music of Dive Collate.
The Lion Constellation, My introduction to this band was when their vocalist Rj formed an indiepop band called Lost Tapes which later my label, Shiny Happy Records collaborated with Shelflife Records and Kocliko Records to release their EP. Instead, long before Lost Tapes was formed, RJ was already starting out with the Lion Constellation
actually the songs can be listened to since the Myspace era. Take a tour together with bands like Interpol, The Horrors, Wire, The Wedding Present, Moon Duo, Sea and the cake, The Fuzztones, and also played at various big and famous festivals such as Primavera Sound.
On the split EP, the Lion Constellation performed two songs called Kiss Me and Nothing To Be Done. When I first listened to Rj's vocals, I was reminded of Andrew Sherriff from Chapterhouse. Overall I can feel the nuances of The Jesus and Mary Chain, Ride, Chapter House or even Catherine Wheels.
It's not advisable to just listen Dive The Lions on streaming bandcamp or spotify but more than that, the split is well worth it collected, stored on the cassette rack and of course played aloud every day in the room. I hope that in the future, Anoa Records will release local and foreign split bands again.
Maybe next split EP Pia Fraus / Seaside? Or Damascus / Lavender Blush?
